TEATRO DELLA GIOVENTÙ
GENOA - ITALY,
FRIDAY 19th and SATURDAY 20th MARCH 2010 h 21:00
On the wave of the success that the first edition of the Red Wine Bluegrass Party had in 2009, with Tim O'Brien as special guest, Red Wine is presenting the 2010 "Bluegrass Party n. 2", two evenings of music with Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum, fine musicians that are well-known to the Italian fans of Bluegrass, Old Time Music and related styles.
Laurie, a stylish vocalist and a fine instrumentalist on fiddle, guitar, upright bass, and old-time banjo, grew up musically in several groups of the San Francisco Bay Area in the '70s, starting her own band (Grant Street) in 1986 with her partner Tom Rozum. The eclectic musical tastes of Laurie and even the moreso of Tom (a New England native who worked his way to Berkeley playing everything - swing, jazz, country, Bluegrass, even Norteno music - on mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar, and tenor banjo) have given Grant Street an imprint that quickly steered away from traditional styles and became more and more "Laurie Lewis music".
The power of Laurie's music has got wide recognition through the years in several ways: she got the IBMA "Song of the year" Award in 1995, with the song "Who will watch the home place?", and was voted Female Vocalist Of The Year a couple times (besides being nominated for Grammy Awards several times along the way).
In 1995 Laurie and Tom released "The oak and the laurel", the first in a series of masterpieces as "Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum", and the release of Tom's solo CD ("Jubilee") has given us an insight on the wide scope of his music, pairing Bill Monroe with Irvin Berline or Merle Haggard. The duo returned to hard-core Bluegrass in 1999, with a CD entitled "Laurie Lewis and her Bluegrass Pals", backed by a stellar band of musicians and centered on their unique vocal blend.
Red Wine will become Laurie's and Tom's Bluegrass Pals during the Red Wine Bluegrass Party 2010, and they're perfectly at ease with this, having already shared the stage with Laurie and Tom several times, both in Italy and the USA. There will be some stage fright of course, but having known Laurie and Tom for years will allow Red Wine to channel it into positive and creative dynamics.
